Mold Index:

Mold is part of the natural process of decay and renewal. It will begin to digest nearly anything under the right conditions. Building materials offer appealing food.

The main requirement for mold growth is the presence of moisture for over 48 hours. If the water content in building materials reaches 19% for two days mold growth and decay will begin.

Molds is normally harmless but can cause extreme health problems including death for people with mold sensitivities or allegies.

RESIDENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT

I commonly receive calls from people across the country worried about health problems from their homes. They are usually concerned about mold, or meth labs, although these are only two of a long list of possible indoor toxins. Most of the people who call report nothing that would indicate either. I’ve been unable to help. Now I can offer a low cost environmental report that is centered on the individual’s home. If there are reports of contamination, the proper testing can be determined to identify possible causes of health problems. If there are no reports of known pollution, this can be tentatively eliminated as a possible cause.

Ninety three per cent of homes in this country are found to have no known sources of environmental pollution. Most of those who have known sources of pollution are easily remediated. These fixes are common.

Most residential properties and neighborhoods are clean, but even the most pristine and affluent areas can have environmental issues that affect health and home values. The EDR Neighborhood Environmental Report use the results of records searches of contamination from common occurrences such as:

  • Leaking underground fuel or gas tanks that can contaminate soil and groundwater;
  • Homes formerly used as "meth" labs, where residual chemicals can cause illness;
  • Contamination from nearby industrial sites, accidental toxic spills or leaks;
  • EPA and State top priority clean-up properties.
